How do results differ between Terapeak and eBay searches?

The Terapeak search engine is not designed to replicate eBay's active listings or completed listings search.

Search Result Types

Terapeak research references all completed listings which ended within the date range in question regardless of the outcome. The search also references all sales which occurred within the date range in question. The search is not designed to reference active listings without sales.

The eBay completed listings search references completed listings which ended within a recent date range. The search also references sales which occurred within a recent date range. The search is not designed to reference active listings without sales.

Search Date Range

The delay for new eBay marketplace data in Terapeak is approximately 3-5 days. The date range is customizable in most Terapeak search views. Listing results can be up to 365 days old.

There is no delay for new data on eBay's site. The date range is not adjustable in completed listing searches. Results are usually less than 30 days old (though some product categories allow older results to be found).

Search Strictness

Terapeak searches require exact spelling matches for each search term to appear in every eBay listing title returned in search results. The search engine accepts Boolean commands such as wildcard searches.

eBay Completed Listing searches do not require exact spelling matches for each search term.  In order to prevent searches from producing zero matching results, the engine will substitute whole words for synonyms as part of a process called Automatic Search Expansion.  The eBay search engine does not accept Boolean commands as of the release of Cassini.
